17th annual
FisherPoets Gathering
February 21-23, 2014

FPG 2014 is pitched off, hosed down and tied up.  We had another great weekend together.  Fans, fisherpoets and the town of Astoria all agree.  In a few months we'll gear up for another one.
Next year's dates are February 27 to March 1.
Many thanks to fisherpoets who came from near and far and very far; to fans likewise; to our dozens of friendly, reliable volunteers; to our friendly venues and their staffs; to our readership sponsors and silent auction donors; to Judi and Milt Stewart, the Astoria Arts and Cultural Fund to Promote Tourism, The Daily Astorian, KMUN and Clatsop Community College.

This season the challenge was to write a poem incorporating this line from Katrina Porteous's Northumbrian poem The Wund an' the Wetter: "It's come wi' the wund an' gan wi' the wetter..."  She tells us it means "Here today and gone tomorrow" in those parts.  Ashley Brady Power's poem won the most enthusiastic applause from the packed Astoria Event Center at the close of Saturday night.

For it's come wi the wund, an it's gan wi the wetter,
I was barely a year old, when I first met her.
She rocked me to sleep, and brought me many joys,
fish heads, nudibranch, your typical toys.
Without her I might not have learned how to curse,
her body flailing, our float bags, my dad at his worst.
Though I no longer spend my summers in her curves,
I visit her often and she says without words:
For it's come wi the wund, an it's gan wi the wetter,
whatever ails, secure your sails, it will get better.

-Ashley Brady Power
