"Start with What's on Hand: Exploring Objects as Talismans and History" - Writing workshop and reading with Lara Messersmith-Glavin.
Uncover the personal, material, and sensual histories of the objects around you as a starting place for essays or journaling. Participants will generate some writing, and we'll discuss both lyric and braided essay forms. This workshop is a great fit for folks drawn to poetry or to nonfiction work. Lara will read from her book Spirit Things, a collection of essays exploring objects on a fishing boat and hold a Q&A via Zoom and chat,

Got stories you want to share? Think about writing a memoir. Pat Dixon has just finished his Alaskan commercial fishing memoir, “Waiting to Deliver: from greenhorn to skipper," which includes stories, poems and photos from his 20 years gillnetting Cook Inlet. He’ll read a few pieces, then talk about the process of writing and assembling his book and answer questions via Zoom and chat.

"Art of the Sea”-The extraordinary world of Gyotaku, a traditional Japanese folk art with Duncan Berry.
Learn the fascinating history of this folk art from its origins in 18th century Japan to world wide modern phenomenon. Watch live an octopus print demonstration as artist Duncan Berry describes his personal Gyotaku journey. View videos of his national touring show “Blue Heart” and see tangible examples of how creative expression can influence social and environmental change. Followed by Q and A with the artist.

"Return of the Redds" with Graham Klag.
Graham Klag of the North Coast Watershed Association will present on the association's newest conservation campaign. Return of the Redds is an exciting new watershed collaboration between local landowners, the forest products industry, nonprofits, state and federal agencies all united around a common goal: To revitalize the once abundant Big Creek and Youngs Bay watersheds and chum salmon populations.

"Performance Tips and Techniques for Poets and Storytellers" with Will Hornyak.
Even the best poems and stories can fall short if not well rendered before an audience. This conversational style workshop willl consider some essential ingredients for creating memorable performances whether for an in-person audience or a virtual format. From practice techniques and audience/performer dynamics to pacing, articulation, microphones and more we’ll share ideas and sharpen our skills as performers. All are welcome. No previous performance experience required.

Washington State in 2021 passed the world's strongest climate policy—a key step to protect fisheries and communities from overheated waters, acidification and other impacts of unchecked carbon pollution.
How will the massive investments under this law reach the waterfront? How can fishermen, mariners, ports and others tap into the funds to “green up” fuels, boost efficiency etc?
Brad Warren and company will share notes on this and other developments of interest.
