Attending the FisherPoets Gathering
|
|
Everyone's welcome to join us. A $20 event button gets you into all FisherPoets Gathering venues and workshops all weekend. (Rare exceptions are noted on the special events page). People 18 years old and younger are admitted free.
Buttons sometimes sell out by Saturday afternoon or evening. Venues, particularly smaller ones and particularly Saturday evening, can get crowded. However, seats have typically been available at some of the larger venues. We'll keep our volunteers better informed this season of where those are so they can point you to other performances. Choose a venue and enjoy it all night. We've scheduled a fine show at every venue. Or take your chances and jump around. If there's a performer you must see, best get there early. Where to Purchase a Button The week of the Gathering, buttons are available in downtown Astoria:
During the Gathering, the buttons are also available:
Buttons are available only in Astoria, for purchase in-person, starting about a week before the FisherPoets Gathering. In addition to buttons, at our pop-up FisherPoets Gathering Gearshack you'll find fisherpoets' books, art and music for sale. Have a look at the Silent Auction while you're there and make a bid on something that strikes your fancy. A Note to Families with Kids Parents with children might like to know that, though we don't have evening activities specifically for youngsters, those who come seem to enjoy themselves. Saturday special events that children might enjoy include the Knot Tying workshop at Pier 39 and the singers' circle that follows. AWE (Art, Wellness, Ecology) Astoria hosts Superhero Salmon Family Fun at the Astoria Library Saturday morning. Try Poetry for Non-Poets Saturday afternoon at the Barbey Maritime Center. More information is available on the special events schedule. Late Saturday night stick around for the On-Site Poetry Contest. Youngsters have won that one. The Liberty Theatre, the Columbian Theater welcome minors all evening The Astoria Brewing Company, Xanadu, Sisu Brewing Company and KALA until 9 p.m. Audiences aren't always hushed. Don't worry too much about making anyone sit still. We ask evening presenters not to use gratuitous vulgar language but sometimes we're unpleasantly surprised. Parking Information The Gathering happens mainly downtown. Parking can be a problem. Have a helpful look at the downtown parking map. Pier 39 and the Columbia River Maritime Museum and Barbey Maritime Center also have some handicap parking. |
